Just study on your own time and do "projects". My company basically pays for all my certs and teaching materials because I've proven I can sit down and learn new things. Makes life easy :D

I did helpdesk for about a year. It's shitty work, but everyone in any profession has to pay their dues to get to where they want to be. I find it humorous when I see people straight out of College thinking they won't be working helpdesk to start off.

The courses you have to take for IT majors is beyond retarded. I have no college degree and my job title is systems/network/software engineer.
