Thank you guys for creating an amazing game and doing this AMA, I love seeing devs interact with their fanbase. I only have one question;

Why is it that Co-op was limited to short linear missions instead of allowing two people to freely roam the island?

Thank you for the prompt answer, I had a feeling there was some practical gameplay related reason this wasn't included. Off to the mod forums I go!

I'd concur. the unpredictability of the people you play with is something you can manage by just picking the people you want to play with in the first place. But as FC3-Soundboy said, I'm sure some mod will be made allowing for that soon enough.

Be it either DLC released by Ubi (there would be loads of unhappy gamers, but they'd probably all buy it anyway) or by a user made mod. There's more than enough demand for it.
