In the early days how much were you all paying attention to each other? For example I think it is striking that both Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament--multiplayer arena shooters that were follow ups to single player games--came out in the same year (or later, Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas, two squad based cover shooters). Was it just coincidence, something in the air, or were people comparing notes? (I assume there is no truth to the old rumor that they both dropped the single player campaign because of Half Life).

Is there any classic FPS that you always thought never got the attention it deserved? Anything you want to highlight?
