What would you say is essential when listening to people from a different political affiliation?

How can we make those interactions more constructive?

Specially with Canada and the US heading to elections soon, this should be on everyone's agendas.

Thanks for your reply. (Actually I'm going to print it and frame it).

Our democratic processes have that side effect of leaving societies somewhat fractioned. However, never strangers shared outcome results of those exercise like in electing our government.
