Howdy Mark,

I have a few questions if you don't mind. This is a pretty fascinating AMA.

  • I am 20 years old and studying Geology at Texas A&M. I have a year left before I apply for graduate school (hopefully Colorado School of Mines). I work in an isotope geochemistry lab currently but I am interested in siliciclastic and carbonate sedimentology/stratigraphy. As a geologist, do you have any recommendations on my future educational path in terms of future courses or skills that I should pick up? If you could go back in time, what would you do differently in school?

  • Can you give me an idea of your career as a geologist? What are some of the major projects that you worked on? How is the work/life balance and amount of satisfaction that you get out of your job? Is the constant travel a burden on family and friends? How did you go about the transition from geology to management?

  • Unfortunately I am a broke student, but I will see if A&M has your book on the shelves in the library. How has the industry changed during your career in terms of responsibility to both the land where O&G is extracted and the people which the industry effects? In the future do you see the public perception of oil companies changing or will there always be an unavoidable level of corruption due to human nature and greed?

  • Favorite rock and fossil? *Nice handlens by the way.

Thank you for your words of advice to a future geologist.

Wow you are pretty cute!

Any advice for a guy planning to throughike the Appalachian trail with my best friend after we graduate from university? It is my first step into outdoor activities besides weekend backpacking and camping trips.

Thanks!
