I grew up in the foster care system from the time I was 8 until I was 19. From age 10-19 I was in just one home. They are wonderful people. Even after I aged out, I remained in their house for nearly another year until I joined the USAF. 20 years later they are still my parents, and my kids call them Grandma and Grandpa. I cannot believe how blessed I was to have them. No real question here. I just wanted to point out that great foster parents do exist and encourage other that they too can be great foster parents.

While it sometimes does work to adopt the kids that is not particularly normal. Generally the state wants to equip the parents with the tools needed to be better parents and then they want the kids to be reunited with their families.

But often times the child is too scared or ignorant (abuse is just part of life to many of them) to say anything. This is what happened to my siblings. For years they basically worked the farm for their foster family so that their foster parents could relax and not have to work. It wasn't until my then 14 year old brother had the courage to run away and report their abuses that the state knew that they had to step in.

Most criminal prosecutions are by state & local governments. They don't have the authority to cancel federal income tax.

As bad as things might seem to you, the truth is that we are living in the best time in the history of the earth. People are treated far more fairly now than ever before. The difference now is purely perception. We have far more access to information than ever before, so we quickly hear about anything bad that occurs. Antisemitism has been a problem forever, but it largely hasn't been visible. Now it's declined while simultaneously becoming more visible so it feels worse. This is not to say that every thing is fine and we don't need to work to make things better. It's to say "don't get discouraged. Humanity is actually getting better"
