What type of modifications do you do to improve solubility? (in water)

The virus is natural in origin. Helping to write a scientific paper and have basically been staring at its proteins and amino acids for days and, none of the methods currently known to man can make such a virus without leaving clear identifying markers. The novel coronavirus doesn't have any markers that indicate any sort of human tailoring. That being said it's not my primary field of study . The sheer number of experts working on it is staggering and someone would have noticed by now if human intervention was involved . Lack of evidence is not proof.
