That's too bad. I live in San Antonio now, and even though it is Texas, it is urban enough to find several open groups with some great kids and families. It was not so easy in the midwest when we lived in a less urban setting.
Have you tried starting your own group on Meetup.com? I like that site because it makes it easy for others who are looking to find you. You might find you are not the only ones in your area who are in the same boat.
Worth trying out for a few months to see what happens.
