Hi Renee! I am a young mezzo currently applying for grad school and I’m thrilled that you are doing this AMA! How did you keep yourself motivated at the transitional points of your career? What are the most important things to remember when competitions, auditions, and applications seem endless?

In your experience and opinion, what is the best way to keep opera alive and relevant for both the active listener and the complete novice?

That would be incredible. I know a few years ago Rufus Wainwright tried to write an operatic piece but it never really took off...if Regina did one that would be a perfect marriage. I'm not a composer but I really hope to champion new works for our genre in my career as you have done. Composers like Heggie and Muhly are already paving the way! I will say, included with modern opera, that your performance as Blanche is my favorite role for your voice... :)
