All of your answers have been interesting and informative but this is the one that came out of the dark and smacked me in the face. I'm putting a reread of both on my winter calendar.

He's a white man who doesn't need this job, having admitted he knows that pay is based on how fast you can crank out a case, accepting help from folks who DO need the job.

I've done this work before, and I can fucking tell you I wouldn't be accepting that help. Tell me a couple tips on how to work better, sure. But get faster on your own through practice, don't accept help from people who think he's on the same playing field. It's exploitative to accept help in this circumstance.
