I'd like to think so too, but the people with similar beliefs that I've known didn't have any problems with good individuals in the group they hate. Either they reasoned "black people are bad, the ones I've talked to were nice so they must be exceptions" or "you're a nice person, but I still the world would be better if you moved to another country".

Something traumatic could also have happened to the kid, for example molestation, that the parents are unaware of.

I'm guessing it would lead to him/her getting death threats from all sorts of fundie muslims and people who don't like muslims.
