I find that really odd. When I shaved my head (initially as a fundraiser, then because I liked it) everyone assumed I had cancer. Strangers were much nicer to me, even if I did get a lot of stares. Maybe there are less 'edgy' women where I live, and more cancer patients?

My best friend is MTF and has her first appointment with the gender clinic next month. She's scared they'll refuse treatment because she's got to a good place with her dysphoria. Do you have any advice for her? And how can I be supportive without being overbearing or making everything about her trans-ness?

Sorry I should have been more specific. Her gender dysphoria is still there, she's a woman and she wants to be treated as such and is upset if she's treated like a man. Her body dysphoria isn't bothering her as much any more though- she used to hate her body but now she's pretty comfortable with it, even though she would still eventually like surgery.

Thanks for the advice!

I take the pill continuously so that I don't have periods. In the UK pills come in sets of 3 weeks, and you take nothing in the 4th week and so have a period. If you skip the 'off' week and have the pill every day you won't have a period. If you're in a place where pills come in sets of 4 weeks, you just skip the 7 dummy pills in each pack. I don't know if that would be safe or effective for you, as you're on the pill for more than just contraception, but its worth asking your doctor about if you don't want to have a period every month. I usually take an off week every 4 months, else I get some spotting.
