These comments can be kind of misleading. No one closes their eyes and sees a clear picture like in a dream. If you can picture a red apple in your head, you don’t have aphantasia. Can you remember what it feels like to hold an apple? Can you imagine a sunset? If you can, you’re fine.

When people say they are seeing things, they’re just imagining them. Picturing the apple and seeing the apple are the same. Does that make sense?
