After working with people who have hearing loss for the past couple of years, I would probably rather lose my vision. Scary thought either way, but as I've heard it, vision connects you to things ... hearing connects you to people. Makes sense to me!

I'm wondering if it was not laziness but more like he hadn't seen something like your case before? Maybe he figured, like most kids, it would just alleviate on its own?
