(as a fellow Taiwanese I really want to share some thoughts too. Hope it's okay! please correct me if I said anything inaccurate) The trade agreement goes way beyond the econ aspect; it will cause tremendous impact on all aspects of our society, like our tradition, culture, quality of life, education, you name it. I think the scariest thing is that our freedom and democracy will gradually deteriorate with the involvement of Chinese government. This protest also brought out many underlying issues that our current government is having with the general public. People's voices are hardly represented in the gov, and the politicians are doing a poor job listening to different opinions.

how are you going to pressure them? I know my friends are going to call their local offices, but is that enough or is there anything else that we can do?

The trade agreement was never properly reviewed, and it is not fair to force it upon the people without accurately informing them about the pros and cons. The sneaking action itself is also rather intolerable.

The students have been asking for a law to properly investigate and evaluate the trade agreement from the very beginning. How do you know something is legal or not if there is no law to follow upon? The demand only seemed to be changing because of the response of our government.
