Years ago, I was the proud user of a brand-new Palm Pre. I was excited to begin developing games, but HTML5 (which was much too slow for my taste) and native C++ (which was much too time-consuming and technical for my taste) were the only options.

Long-story short, I added webOS as an NME target, having almost no C++ experience, and no experience in Haxe. When Adobe finally made good on their promise to support webOS, the Haxe apps were 13 times faster.

I believe that open-source development helps provide the capacity, as Lars mentions, to push things forward if you're motivated to.

OpenFL runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Tizen, Flash and HTML5, with more targets coming. Our goal is to provide a "passport" so that you can take your creative vision wherever you want to. Needless to say, we're working on console support now.

This might not be a cool answer, but one of my favorite games lately is Picross, it's a nice blend of challenging, and also relaxing. I also recently finished Super Metroid and much of Earthbound, who knew one of my favorite parts of the Wii U would be the SNES?

The moment you separate "Flash development" from "Flash Player", I think the topic lightens up a bit.

There are many reasons why people do not like Flash Player. Ultimately, people would prefer not to have a plugin. This is also uncomfortable on Linux, where I (personally) cannot even get the projector to work without going back to an older version of my OS.

Flash development is awesome, people who understand the workflow realize that you can build incredible games, incredibly fast.
