Why are we continually told to prepare for just three days? Winter storms regularly knock out power and water for that long in some communities. The New Yorker article suggested no water for a month or more. Yet the Red Cross, FEMA, and even the fire departments tout "3 days, 3 ways." Shouldn't the minimum time to survive on your own be 1-2 weeks?
