What about specimens found on government land, say BLM or other areas open to the public. Are all fossils found there government property? If someone found a megalodon tooth on a public beach, would it be illegal to take out?

Did you watch any of the show Terra Nova on Fox? I've heard that it was not just factually off, but infuriating to some paleontologists.

Thanks. That makes sense. Someone finding a skeleton out in some National Park in Utah seemed like a no-brainer, but it kind of felt like the beach might be under a different set of rules.
