Hi Nick, Jim, and Whitney, My sister in law who I'm not very close to and I don't really talk but other family members tell my husband and I that she is depressed and they fear that she might commit suicide. What advice should I give the people who are in contact with her on how to help her? Though I'm not the biggest fan of my sister in law I don't want to see anything to happen to her. Especially since she has three children (they are being raised by their father but she sees them on the weekend).

Great question: First off I'm not a therapist so take what I say as a grain of salt but I do suffer from depression and I'm on Antidepressants. For me they do help me keep out of those numb feelings days and days where I just want the "pain to end". However, it took me months to find the right dosage and what works best for me. Though if you keep with it they do help. Another more natural option is exercises study show it can be very effective and with therapy it can be a great benefit. Another thing you can do is meditation. I really like it you can look up a few videos on YouTube to try it. All in all I would talk to your therapist and see what might be the best fit for you since they know you best.
