Often the average guys you see working an oil rig aren't white trash or from super poor towns but they are from lower middle class or low class economic house holds. They probably drove a 10 years or older car. They probably worked a minimum wage job in high school. Then they suddenly get this job where they aren't really spending anything and making a ton. So they buy the things they never had before.

It's no different then what your average pro sports player does. Comes from a ton. Spends a ton. Goes to nothing.
