I had a loved one that I spent alot of time wth. I got over the fustration with answering the same question over and over - "so where do you work?" I just started making up fantasy careers. I came to know that he asked that question just to make small talk and act engaged, and I realized that interaction was what he needed even when he couldnt comprehend the answer.

In your opinion,does the fact that states receive tax revenue based on oil price make them stay hands-off? Why bite the hand that feeds them, after all.

You clearly must make them angry. But they havent scared you off. Good point about high prices/less pollution.
