Ok, I get how a 5 year old could probably understand limits but please explain to me how the average 5 year old can understand differentiation and integration?

I've always wondered, what will it take to move toward some kind of sentience? Obviously much more powerful computers will be needed but what kind of algorithms? Is it enough to create a recursive algorithm that's designed to continually learn more? Also, I find similarities between the blockchain idea and consciousness. Anyway, these are just the thoughts of someone who knows nothing about AI. Feel free to shoot my ideas down...
