I'm a company commander in the reserves and I'm a merchant mariner, graduated from USMMA. It's definitely difficult, but it depends on your position in your unit. It's much easier for one of my 88M's to miss a drill than it is for me, but I know of people who made it work with shipping. It all depends on your relationship with your commander. As for MSC, I wouldn't recommend it, they're notorious for not getting you home when they say they will. Unions could be a good option (personally I'm not a fan of them) or just working directly for a company which I think is easiest. Right now I work for a tugboat company and it's easier because I know my schedule is 2 weeks on and of every time.

Coming from a state school, what's your opinion (if you have one) on Kings Point and all the shit going on there with MARAD? I went to KP and I'm always interested in other people's opinion on the place
