I think I got the flu yesterday and have a ton of chest congestion/coughing/wheezing which kept me up most of the night. Should I be looking more towards something with a cough suppressant or an expectorant for tonight?

Thanks for the response, I took some sudafed yesterday and them caught a documentary about Brittany Murphy's death where they said part of the problem was (besides other meds) she had taken cough suppressants and wasn't able to cough up enough phlegm/bacteria out of her lungs. Needless to say that worried me since I was a little short of breath and the sudafed was already in my system! It is slightly better today at least. If it had gotten any worse last night I was going to the E.R.!

Thanks for the response! Feeling much better now as I was able to eat something today (yesterday only Gatorade and water) and finally take a meaningful nap! Edit: I realise she didnt have the flu, i was referencing the buildup of material in the lungs since i had soooo much junk in mine that wasn't coming up, just nonproductive coughing, accompanied by a slight shortness of breath.

Lung/sinus congestion, body aches all over, hot flashes, cold flashes (minutes apart all night throwing blankets off then pulling back on), sweats, fever, constant coughing/wheezing, felt dehydrated no matter how much I drank and no appetite. I took a guess. Could have been wrong but seemed to fit.
