I work for a recycling/trash company and give tours of our recycling center. One of the biggest things I like to point out is how many things reducing, reusing, and recycling cuts down on apart from just materials. When you break it down to emissions, gas, mining, man-power, and everything else, it really opens people's eyes to just how much hinges on our use of plastics and non-recyclable materials.

We currently have a few campaigns running like our Recycling is in Trouble campaign to try and get our customers more educated. It's interesting to watch people start to understand what they're actually contributing to simply with their day-to-day habits.
