Unfortunately true. I get so frustrated when I see people suggesting musicians play gigs for free to get exposure or connections. The hours upon hours put into practice cannot be compensated for with "exposure," especially when that exposure is no guarantee that you'll get paid later down the road. The art/music world, as well as film and other similar areas, deserve to be treated with more respect and not just be seen as brief free entertainment for people.

It's important to set realistic goals.
