You sound like a great person. I know it won't be easy, but hopefully you cherish all the moments you have. Good luck with everything.

I'm not sure why I chose to respond to this right here, but there seems to be a very common consensus among IT professionals in this thread.
I've been in IT for a little over a year now (just graduated) and it honestly has worsened my depression, made me anxious, and generally made me strongly dislike a lot of my coworkers. Of course, I graduated with a degree in MIS because my mom refused to let me change majors and I told her that I hated it so I went in knowing that I'd dislike it.
Some days are better than others, but for the most part I can barely get out of bed in the morning anymore. I'm constantly dreading the next 9-10 hours of my day. So, what is the point of this? I've decided to get out early while I still have some shred of sanity left. I'm considering moving to Colorado with a few friends and just skiing for a few months before moving onto the next thing. I understand that not everyone can do this and that it isn't the best move for career choices but I honestly couldn't give one more ounce of a shit. We only have one life to live and if you're not trying to live it exactly the way you want to, you're not doing it right. Sure, money is nice and necessary, but if it eats away at your happiness then what's the point? I don't know when I'm going to die and I know people younger than me who have died and I'm only in my 20s. It can happen at any time.
Just do what you think makes you happy and life will fall into place.
