Even I was wondering about the same thing, one thing I thought about is that babies put everything into their mouths because it's one of the ways the understand the world around them.

Like they try to identify and learn what something is more than just eat it. So they assess it based on their senses of touch, vision, sound, smell and also taste

My understanding would be that sugar is a good source of carbs and instant energy, so speaking from a survival point of view, it's very useful.

So your brain has set up a reward system where in you get a hit of dopamine when you eat sugar and this causes the craving.

Idk how to explain alcohol tho
