This is my argument for nuclear weapons. I doubt we'll see them used in our lifetime. But we cannot get rid of our own, they are a deterrent nowadays.

People do the Certificate of Insurance thing in the UK, buy a policy, cancel it after a month and keep the certifcate, pretending they have that policy, howver, with the ANPR system keeping track of all insured, taxed and MOT'd vehicles in the UK, it's only a matter of time. Then a cop will take great pleasure in seizing your vehicle from you.
