I've been on Reddit for about 3 years and I once read a post from the son of a surgeon that I'll never forget.

He talked about how his dad was some sort of major surgeon in a hospital and he said that he'll usually come home and everything will be OK. But, sometime's he'll come home and everyone will know to leave him alone that day.

Don't be hard on yourself. I've missed signs WAY more obvious than that. The important thing is that you messed up, learned from mistakes, and moved on.
