I was only able to quit smoking when I started to get panic attacks (and I thought the cigarettes were starting them). I quit cold turkey after 17 years at 2 packs a day. It's been a bit over 2 years now.
Oddly, my uncle had a somewhat similar experience to quit smoking. He was trying to quit and overdosed on over the counter nicotine (like he ate too much gum) and went to the hospital. He quit cold turkey after 30 years of smoking.

So my question:
How often are "quitting" experiences like mine and my uncle's? Is there any ethical similar version of this that could help others? I couldn't quit before that....
