I am also a former foster kid. I never got a family of my own. I "aged out" in a group home. Now I'm 28, have my masters, a home, a husband and a wonderful daughter of my own. Congratulations on your forever family! I can relate to you and know that if you learn what NOT to do/be from the asshats that birthed you- you'll go far! I did :)

So, as for what you can do for kids who age out of the system- for me I was able to get some assistance with housing til I was 21- I think getting in touch with your local social services provider and asking to be a mentor would be a great help. I have two relationships from when I was 16 and in my first group home. These adults never adopted me, but they talked to me, supported me, advised me, and generally were sounding boards. They both went to my wedding, we email and write letters, and are very important parts of my support network. Being a mentor- or just a constant presence is sooo valuable.
