How often do you get your phenylalanine levels tested? Currently, my masters research thesis is for alternative methods for traditional tests using only paper based devices that people can use at home (like the glucose strips that people use for diabetes,) but I'm curious how useful that will actually be for someone with PKU. If you do go get tested regularly, do you have to pay for these tests? Or are they covered by Scotland's amazing healthcare?

I'm just beginning my graduate research this summer on paper based microfluidics (same idea as a pregnancy test) that can quantitatively tell one the level of phenylalanine in their body by a drop of blood to help people with PKU monitor what concentrations are in their bodies. I am skeptical about this application however, because it doesn't seem as though there are many things to do if it is too high. My question to you is, would monitoring the concentration of PKU in your body help you out in any way? Or have you been pretty successful just watching what you eat.

I took a repelling class and one day we learned "The Aussie Repel" which was where you wear your harness backwards and I thought haha, the upside down joke... but I guess thats not the reason. So, my question is, do you know the reason? Apparently it was military related.
