I get what you're saying, but you could also argue that shorter cycles are good. With longer cycles, even after you're fully geared, you're still behind everyone. Maybe you catch up, but you probably won't if you didn't start early enough. Shorter cycles allow for more entry points. If you missed the start of one, just wait for the next, it won't be that long. There's a WOTLK private server that has 6 month seasons, and imo that's perfect.
