Why does CreditKarma use 128-bit security and not something more stringent like 2048?

second and more personally relevant question -

I have a loan with a lender that is listed as connect-able on your site but since October 2013 I continually get "unknown error could not connect". I brought this to support and they told me "make sure you're doing it right" which sounds a little funny (but I work in IT so I know users can go full dumb). I pressed further on the issue and the response I got was

"This site is currently in beta development for connection. As soon as 25 people have connected their credentials, our service provider will fully develop the site and you'll be able to monitor your account on Credit Karma."

Can you explain this?
