"Serious" being some place where they ask you to code it again so it completes in O(1) time. Most places where software is written don't seem to be familiar with such things - "Just make it work" is the mantra and the 'how' doesn't matter. 95% of all software is shovelware. And that's ok. In general, we don't need the all the stars in the sky for the vast majority of software.

That said, if you want to be a dev at some place that does ask you to make your software grind through the data in O(1) or O(n) time, you will probably need a formal education in computer science (or at least, those are the places where a CS degree is actually useful).

You (hopefully) have no idea how many amazing hours of my college life was spent playing CS. It's been over ten years and it still makes me happy thinking back on those times. My dormmates and others bonded over that game, still friends with a lot of them a decade+ later.

Glad to see you're still alive and kicking!
