My father is an interventional radiologist, and always says the specialty is a dying breed. The minimally invasive procedures performed by IR's are increasingly being taken over by other specialties in the hospital. Have you found this to be the case and do you see a future for the specialty?

In terms of IR's in a private practice setting, there are quite a few that open up varicose vein treatment offices. They close the diseased vein with minimally invasive techniques using thermal energy under ultrasound guidance. Doing just this procedure alone, many late-career IR's have become successful with these vein clinics.
