Earthlings really was the final nail in the coffin for me going vegan. I could not consciously choose to eat or use animal products anymore after seeing everything in that film. Of course a lot of people argue saying it's all just the worst case scenarios and then go on convincing themselves that the meat they eat came from happy, free, cute animals or the leather jacket they're wearing was made from the dead cow as a leftover from the dairy industry.
I would challenge everyone to watch Earthlings, then see how easy the choice to eat and use animals products is.

Fantastic book. It was the first thing that made me really start to question my meat eating. Once I got to some of the more shocking portions of it, I remember going to Subway, where I normally got a ham sub with extra cheese, I just could not order it anymore. That was the beginning of my transition to being vegan. That was 3 years ago and it was the best decision I've made.

I've heard this argument from too many people to remember. My Dad worked in a pig slaughterhouse way back in the early 70's so his idea of what they are like now is cemented in what he experienced back then. So I think because he had a relatively "good" experience 40 years ago he just assumes that most slaughterhouses are still like that. First, his stories of what he had to do there are brutal in the first place. Secondly, factory farms and slaughterhouses are VERY different now compared to the 70's. We've got a heck of a lot more people on the planet and they all want to be eating a lot more meat everyday.
Cognitive dissonance is a strong force.
