Do you ever regret not going to college?

Two questions:

1) What is the most promising experimental prediction string theory makes that could actually be tested in the near future?

2) Do you see any legitimate scientific purpose to manned space programs? From a purely scientific perspective, it seems like any experiment could be done cheaper and probably better by a robot.
