I dropped out in Grade 11 for a $125k/yr fishing job. I'm 23 now and am just going back for my GED, and hopefully attending University in the New Year.
There are a lot of high paying jobs out there for people who don't really see education being for them, you just need to get your hands dirty.

BC coast dragging hake, and pollock during the Winter, sometimes got in a black cod trip on the tail end of of January. Herring seining in March. Spot Prawn fishing during Spring. Salmon seining during the Summer.
I worked about 10-11 a months a year.

I use to do 4-month Tuna trips in the Summer bouncing around BC, Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, Oregon, and home. Those were the only time I had trouble being out for a long time. Other than that I can do back to back hake trips standing on my head. Salmon, and spot prawns aren't bad and I consider them paid vacations. Winter fishing sucks though and I never look forward to it.
I've ran a few boats but always end up back on deck by choice. Quota, and licenses are expensive and the Government would rather see us not fish and let fish farms take over the industry. The entire industry is always crashing and bouncing back and is generally very volatile. I'm sick of worrying month to month if I'm going to have a job when we show up for a trip. I think I'm going to take a year of General studies and figure it out from there. I'll probably end up going with Business and then getting back into the industry full on White collar. I'm almost completely deaf, have a hurt back, more scars than I can count, two bummed knees, a wrecked shoulder, and am getting the final word in the new year if my latest concussion caused any permanent brain damage so I think my life in the blue collar world is over.
