Backblast is the rearward spray from a rocket-propelled munition. If firing an AT-4 anti-tank weapon, a javelin, or older weapon system, one must first check that behind them is clear.

This is often done via a loud: "Backblast area clear!!" shout accompanying a rearward glance.

Crew-served or wire-guided systems rely on a second gunner to secure the backblast area so the gunner can safely track his or her target.

TL;DR, check behind you when firing a shoulder mounted rocket so you don't deep fry a soldier.

Hi Benedict!

I wanted to thank you for your appearance at last year's Cincinnati Comic Expo. You were awesome and the photos you took with my son and wife made their con.

I know Cincinnati isn't exactly San Diego or anything huge, but you brought a lot of joy to a lot of people -- my son in particular. He took the photo of you and him to show and tell the following week. He still talks about it.
