gold fish will eat and eat and eat, to the extreme
My cat accidently knocked an open container of flake into a tank with a single goldfish ( it was a rescue hate them in general) it kept eating till it was bloated to the point it couldn't swim. Once discovered we put in a high aerated tank hospital tank with a multi anti fungal because they will susceptable to bloat and other fungal and internal problems for a while
Yes the damn thing survived as did the other fish because we did a complete water change

it was many years ago this happened. Now that you mentioned it we might have dropped it into a low % salt / brackish water tank
