Who did you roadie for?

An obscure British band called "Tranquility." I met them when I was the soundman at the Whiskey a go-go and toured with them. They were managed by Ashley Kozak, the guy who managed Donovan.

We were the opening band for Billy Preston, Dr. John, New Riders of the Purple Sage and a few others. Toured the East Coast mostly. The lead singer (Terry Shaddick) went on to co-write "Physical" for Olivia Newton John.

To be clear, I was the assistant soundman. I ran the sound checks and did the original setting of the microphones. I mixed the opening set. Donnie (the soundman) mixed the starring band. I struck the gear after the show.

You can go just so loud before feedback becomes an issue. We EQ the room to maximize the volume at all frequencies but you can just go so far. Inevitably, a band will ask the soundman to increase the volume over time as human ears respond to the volume. The warm-up band asks for a higher volume. So does the headliner.
