I'd say your attempt to portray a motivation is what made the mental health issues so realistic. Trying to act crazy just makes it look over played, really showing the motivation and reasoning behind these people, who are often more like everyone else than we care to accept, is what makes it truly a wonderful thing to behold.

It's more like the market is a storage room of all the things the entire country owns and you're supposed to only take things from it if needed. So the idea is to supply needs free of charge to everyone everywhere when needed.
