Do you think staying on property is worth the extra cost for guests? What's your favorite mid to high range hotel at Disney?

We're taking a family vacation to Disney for my three year-old niece next year. I am the anti-Disney but hey, she's going only going to be little once.

and the homes/apartments for rent are atrociously disgusting and cost more than my fairly nice apartment in one of the nicest zipcodes in the country.
