America is absolutely a great place, but if you want to get out of Egypt you should also consider Canada. It's also a great place with economic opportunities for those with the right skills. Don't let the perfect (in your mind, America) be the enemy of the good. Regardless, look outside of your own focus to find a country where you can contribute and be welcomed.

In some cases yes, in other cases no. It's really hard to say whether its "hard" or "easy" to get into any developed country. It's "hard" to get into Canada if you are low-skilled (including family members of those here) but "easier" if you are highly skilled and speak English/French already. Immigration processes take forever, that's why it's good to have a number of options and to research them thoroughly.

It really is. Upvote for that book, it's one everyone should read. It's not just about the laws themselves but about how ex-convicts are viewed and treated by society. Pretty much, once you're convicted you never really become a citizen again - you can't vote or have a really, really hard time getting a decent job.
