Certain foods they cook smell different, and curry, cardamom, cumin, tumeric, and other spices are used in our cooking that cause the strong smell. The main reason is Frankincense, or uunsi in Somali. This stuff is so strong I can smell a Somali from a mile away with this smell, and can detect whether there was one in my near vicinity. It is used frequently as an incense in Somali homes. This plus a combination of the spices yields an "odd" smell

Somali male here. I would add that most Somalis that I know have a full functional family with a father. Their socioeconomic status, although lower than average, is still enough to sustain. Most Somali families have on average around 6 children, so family structure is important.
Somali immigrants are hit with a serious culture shock that, if left alone, would probably lean to a gang mentality. This, I find, all depends on who the child's influences are when they arrive to Canada. Sadly, a majority of immigrants usually find bad influences and enter a life of crime, however, many find good role models and graduate/contribute to society

Definitely not. Under Italian colonial rule it was an excellent country, probably one of the best in East Africa. Before 1985 it was a stable country with an effective government. Tribal clashes occurred from 1985-1991, and a full out civil war is raging from 1991-Present day. Black Hawk Down and a thirst for power fueled this clash even further. Humanitarian aid ultimately failed as peacekeepers withdrew, leading to their present downfall. This is mainly located in the capital, Mogadishu, but there is tribal warfare occurring in the North. Relatively peaceful in Northern Somalia though.

It is called fadhi carbeed: translation: arab seating. It is a type of furniture from the arab culture I guess. Not sure what the english word is.
Most somalis "the young ones" assimilate well and shop at local malls, but the older somalis support the somali-run businesses more frequently. That being said, older somalis still shop for groceries, electronics, etc at large retail malls
