He didn't have to go to China or Russia. He chose to break federal law by disclosing classified information. You think he didn't talk to anyone in the intelligence community in those countries?

I know the attention span on Reddit can be short when it comes to history but there was another NS whistleblower (among many) back in 2000 by the name of William Binney. He served in Vietnam and worked for the NSA for over 30 years. He left the agency because his system of data collection was passed over for a more expensive and intrusive one. He left because of similar reasons Snowden did.

When he blew the whistle, he didn't release classified information to the public or to foreign intelligence officials. Snowden essentially cut the nose to spite the face.
