Hey John,

Back in 2009, I was a very troubled and depressed 16-year-old. I had lots of issues that were making me hate myself and my life. That was around the same time I discovered the Vlogbrothers and your videos helped me immensely by making me smile even when I felt down.

I became suicidal at one point, and not knowing what else to do, I sent you an email. I don't remember exactly what that email said anymore, and that's probably for the best. But I remember telling you that I felt lost and alone and wishing for any kind of help. I knew you didn't respond to emails as a general rule, so it was more a form of venting, if anything. Letting someone know I existed when it felt like no one else did. But you DID respond to that email and your response truly helped me more than I could ever say.

This is something similar to what you said in a Vlogbrothers video not too long ago - I don't know if your email changed my life, but it definitely changed SOMETHING in me. I've had ups and downs and ended up right back where I started a couple times, but I'm so much happier and mentally healthier today than I was back then and I have looked back on your advice so many times to help me get through rough patches. So, this isn't a question, but I just wanted to take this chance to say thank you, John. I think I would have gotten through that part of my life even without your help, but your help and the knowledge that someone cared about me even just a little bit made it so much easier. Thank you for helping me pull through and for giving me advice that I'll never forget.
