My brother is black and I am white. My parents adopted him when I was very young, and he was roughly 4 years older than me. When I was 17, he left us without any contact for him. I'm 33 now, and I've talked to him twice and he's made it clear he wants no future communication from any of us. I feel this has to do with the nature of the family dynamic- my parents not able to offer him the kind of family he had spent the first 9 years of his life with.
